The Largest Concrete Pour in Utah

St. George, UT — Tuesday, December 3, 2019, is a record-setting date in St. George, Utah. Hughes General Contractors, MagicSlabTM, and Doug Warner Construction Manager continuously poured 100,000 square feet of concrete for the Paparazzi Accessories Warehouse Expansion. To date, this continuous pour is the largest by square footage ever achieved in the state of Utah.

Sunroc Excavating and Sunroc Concrete imported close to 200 truckloads of material for the pour, requiring almost every concrete truck from Cedar City to Mesquite, Nevada. Brundage-Bone supported the record setting efforts with their 61- and 56-meter pump trucks. Crews from Scoffield Construction Inc., C&C Contractors Inc., JJ Screeding, HD Supply White Cap, and AGEC Testing Labs out of Salt Lake City were also on site to assist crews.

Paparazzi Accessories, Hughes, and MRW Design Associates teamed up for the second time to assist with Paparazzi’s rapid growth since completing the three-time award-winning, 70,000-square-foot office, showroom, and warehouse facility in October 2018. The new 260,000-square-foot warehouse will allow Paparazzi to house all their employees under one roof.

Hughes developed MagicSlab in 2014, when challenged with the question, “Does concrete have to crack?” As a result of extensive research and testing and approximately 100,000 square feet of test slabs, the end result eliminates more than 95% of typical cracks, saw-cuts, and cold joints. This patented process produces seamless, durable, easy-to-maintain slabs that are suitable for upscale office buildings as well as industrial shop and warehouse spaces.

When asked about the decision to use Magicslab at Paparazzi, co-founder Misty Kirby stated “I fell in love with the idea of minimal cracks, due to the fact that our product is very tiny. If you have cracks in the concrete or rises and flows, it makes our job harder—if something drops down into a crack, it’s getting stuck. It made sense to me and our business. I you can build a facility and spend the extra money to make it that much better, then your functionality will pay itself back in dividends for years to come because you can be faster and more efficient as a work space.”

On behalf of Magicslab and Hughes General Contractors, we would like to say “thank you” to everyone involved with this project. We would not be as successful without the amazing employees, subcontractors, supplies, vendors, and industry partners we have had the privilege to work with over the last 61 years. Thank you to the city and residents of St. George for supporting our efforts in bring better products and solutions to all our clients.
